About This Wine:
Sarah & Sparky introduce the 2009 Gigglepot
Marquis Fruit Weight: (your guarantee of quality) 80%+ Reviews Winner of the Consumers Choice Award at the 2010 South Australian Wine of the Year Awards in the 'Cabernet Sauvignon' category Wine Spectator 'Firm and fleshy, offering a juicy mouthful of ripe currant and cherry fruit. Gains welcome complexity, with hints of eucalyptus and bay leaf as the finish extends nicely. Neither the fruit nor savory notes prevail, creating a nice tension. Drink now through 2013.' - 90 points, Harvey Steiman, www.winespectator.com Wine Advocate 'The 2009 Gigglepot Cabernet Sauvignon is produced from mostly McLaren Vale fruit with about 12% coming from Langhorne Creek. It was aged in 80% American oak and 20% French, 53% new. Very deep garnet-purple colored, it reveals an incredibly intense nose of both crushed fresh black currant and creme de cassis with underlying mint, dark chocolate, cassia and allspice aromas. Full-bodied and juicy fruited, there’s a nice harmony of structure and flesh on the palate with refreshing acid and medium-firm finely grained tannins. It finishes long and spicy. It’s tempting forward now but should reward another year or two in bottle and drink to 2018+.'- 93 points, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, www.erobertparker.com Cork'd - 94 points 'For Mollydooker Cabernet lovers, the Gigglepot is their pinnacle 100% Cabernet experience with a Marquis Fruit Weight score of over 80%. The wine is in short supply so it may only be available on their website. When I first tasted the wine it reminded me of a California Cult Cabernet on release; a massive wine with powerful fruit but also noticeable tannins. The 2009 Gigglepot has more noticeable tannic structure at this stage of its evolution which makes me think that this wine will last 20+ years in the cellar. The fruit sources include McLaren vale and Langhorne Creek vineyards which have produced this wine in previous vintages. On the nose were hints of cherry, plum, chocolate and oak. This wine will need a few years to settle down so cellar the 2009 Gigglepot and gulp down the 2009 Maitre D' while it ages.' - Brian Pasch, www.corkd.com Wine Profile:
